What’s the difference between expensive needles and lesser expensive needles?
Acupuncture is all about needles, right?
What are some of the quality differences in needles and what can you as an Acupuncturist consider in the needles you use?
By the way, In case you were wondering, you have to be a Licensed Acupuncturist in order to order Acupuncture needles.
VIDEO CORRECTION: I talk about plastic “tips” in the video, but I meant to refer to the “handles’ of needles. The tip is what is inserted into the body tissue and the handle is what the Acupuncturist holds on to to control and manipulate the needle.
The tip is where you will find visual differences, usually at a microscopic level ranging from asymmetry, pits or deposits. The higher quality needles will tend to look the way you’d expect a needle to look.
Other differences could be the grade of stainless steel (most are stainless).
With greater availability, one should not only consider the price due to competition, but should also have some assurances of the quality and history of Quality Assurance of the manufacturers, especially new manufacturers without a track record. This should be the subject of another talk, though, currently, a company with a long history of providing quality products is the best assurance.
