Why is the Acupuncturist checking your wrist?

Well established in the fundamentals of TCM ( or Traditional Chinese Medicine) is the checking of a patient’s pulse. Its very complex compared to the western methods which only checks for heart rate.

Here’s just a primer: On the wrists, each side represents different aspects of the internal organ systems as defined by TCM philosophy, and on each side, three different depths are evaluated, each with there own significance with their variety of presentations.

To go further, you would need to get a basic understanding of Yin and Yang and the nature of the internal organ systems from a TCM standpoint. Fascinating to be sure, but not necessarily what you need to just get some basic concept.

I hope you got some idea from my layman’s explanations. If you’d like to dig deeper, I would recommend that you pickup one of many TCM textbooks that go into depth to your heart’s delight.
